NAOC meets with Statia Sports Federation
Events, National — By admin on June 16, 2009 at 5:33 amOranjestad St.Eustatius, On Monday June 8th Mr. Imro van Wilgen (secretary general) and Mr. Remco Tevreden (director) along with there other board member Mr. Elvin Henriquez of the Netherlands Antilles Olympic Committee met with members of the general assembly of the Statia Sport Federation. During this meeting various topics where discussed among others the way ahead after the dismantling of the Netherlands Antilles.
One of the main concerns of the general assembly was the cooperation between the Antillean Federation and the territorial sport organization on the (5) islands. The assembly made there concerns very much clear indicating that didn’t feel the effect of being part of these federations when in reality there athletes aren’t benefiting. Other issues discussed is the cooperation between the NAOC and the (5) territories.
Members of the NAOC used this meeting to give clarification on many disturbing issues and also advised on how to improve sports on the island hereby giving more and better opportunity to the local athletes. While on the island the NAOC also met with the Executive Council briefing them of ongoing developments and plans for this cycle and beyond. The NAOC also explained the importance of government financial contribution to the sports programs formulated with the use of a sports policy and moral support for the athletes. Both meetings where very well attended and various constructive discussions took place.
