Worldchampion Burgos will defend his title

Antillean Athlete Alfred Burgos (Curacao) will participate in the World Indoor Championships for Masters. This event will be held in Kampsloop (Canada) during the period 1-6 March 2010.
NAOC supported Burgos by covering the costs of his airticket. Burgos participated the last years in the different Masters Championships. His results were as following:

NAOC invests $13,000 in Athletics Coaching course

Through the international fund Olympic Solidarity, NAOC has different opportunities to develop sports on the Antillean islands.

One of the programs is the possibility to organize a technical courses for coaches. This year the federations of Athletics and Table tennis showed their interest to host such a course.

Track & Field organized a level 1 course, named CECS (COACHES EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION SYSTEM) during 10 days. This course falls under the curriculum of IAAF (International Amateur Athletics Federations) and was conducted by the director Mr Angel Alicea from Puerto Rico, together with Lenny Bitorina from Curacao.

International athletics and female soccer courses

Through the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) in Mexico, NAOC gets the opportunity to select coaches together with our member sport federations, to participate in international courses.

These sport technical courses are of a high international level, and consist out of about 56 hours of education. There are 42 participating countries of the Pan American Region.

Mr. Willem Cordilia is selected to participate in the international Athletics Long distance course, which is taking place in Mexico (13-20 September). Additionally Rovian Carolina is selected to participate in the Soccer for Women course also in Mexico, in the period 20-26 September.

It is the intention of NAOC to upgrade the respective sport with this. The costs of the course are being covered by Olympic Solidarity.

Churandy’s Documentary

NAOC, UTS and Fisheye Productions have been following Churandy Martina during his Olympic year with a camera crew, which resulted in a documentary. This production shows how Churandy Martina trained for the 2008 Olympics, his competitions, his Silver medal race, and his disqualification.

The documentary also shows our youth that anyone with talent, motivation and discipline can achieve world famous results. That’s why we aim to get as much as schoolchildren as possible to see this documentary.

The premiere will be at the cinema’s on Curacao, on the 12th of August.
